New Boy; Julian Houston

Book review number two on this website. This time the book is , 'New Boy' by Julian Houston. It is a realistic fiction book about the life of an African-American boy dealing with segregation in the south during the 1950's. The protagonist, Rob Garrett had gotten the chance to be able to go to a private school up north, but the thing is he is the very first black to be admitted to the school. At first things go fairly smoothly, but soon people back in his hometown are beginning to riot for freedom of racism, and now he's stuck up north. What will happen? Will the white people finally cave in and allow the south to be desegregationalized, or will things go back to normal with no change at all? Is there any hope for a young boy trying to find himself? Read the book to find out :)
